Medical Weight Loss with

Semaglutide

At Rejuvené, our weight loss program revolves around the tremendous success of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide in helping people lose those unwanted pounds.  Our program is designed with your overall health, well-being and safety in mind.  We use compounded Semaglutide. We strongly encourage proper eating and exercise habits to obtain optimal results and will provide guidelines for you to implement lifestyle changes that will impact your long-term health and prosperity.

While the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners requires that a physician licensed in the state of Louisiana evaluate every patient in a weight management program, we take it a step further.  Because we believe that there is additional value in having an actual physician operate the program, we not only have a physician perform the initial evaluation but also have that physician continue to monitor each client throughout the program.  We perform screening labs that assess your blood, thyroid, liver and kidney, as well as your electrolytes, cholesterol, lipids and testosterone hormone level.  Below is an outline of our weight loss program(s).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Semaglutide should not be used in patients with a history of multiple endocrine neoplasia, medullary thyroid cancer, family history of medullary thyroid cancer, insulin-dependent diabetes, diabetes utilizing sulfonylureas or patients with history of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).  If you have any of the above, you will not be eligible to start Semaglutide and should not register for our program.

FAQs

  • • Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist that stimulates insulin release from the pancreas. Glucagon-like peptide -1 is a natural hormone that helps your body regulate your blood glucose.

    • Semaglutide was first approved by the FDA for weight loss under the name of Wegovy in June of 2014.

  • • By increasing insulin production, Semaglutide helps your body burn calories.

    • Semaglutide slows down the speed at which food travels through your digestive system (your stomach empties more slowly), causing you to eat less.

    • Semaglutide acts on your brain’s hunger signal causing you to feel full, resulting in weight loss.

  • • Semaglutide is administered as a subcutaneous injection once a week.

    • It is started at a low dose to minimize side effects.

    • Doses adjustments are considered every 4 weeks as needed.

  • • The recommended starting dose of Semaglutide for weight loss is typically 0.25 mg once a week for the first four weeks. This is followed by an increase to 0.5 mg once a week. Some patients, however, may benefit from an increased dose to 1 mg once a week.

    • Like any medication, a qualified physician can determine the optimal dosage for your weight loss needs.

  • • Clinical studies have shown that Semaglutide can help to produce significant weight loss in overweight and obese individuals. Controlled trials showed that participants who took Semaglutide lost an average of 15% to 20 % of their body weight over 68 weeks, compared to an average of 2.4% weight loss in those who received a placebo.

  • • Weight loss results will vary from person to person, but clinical studies have shown that Semaglutide can help to produce significant weight loss in overweight and obese individuals.

    • In clinical trials for Ozempic, participants lost an average of 13.5 pounds over 26 weeks when used in combination with moderate diet and exercise.

    • In a 68-week study, participants taking Ozempic lost up to 20% of their body weight and those on Wegovy lost an average of 16.0% of their initial body weight, compared to 5.7% for those taking a placebo.

    • Weight loss results are significantly better when combining Semaglutide with proper diet and exercise.

  • • Most people will start seeing a decrease in their appetite, the sensation of being fuller faster and a decrease in their food intake in their first month. However, the entry dose is to allow your body to adjust to the new medication and to limit potential side effects. The entry dose is not considered an effective dose for significant weight loss.

    • Expect to see better results after starting the higher doses. It usually takes about 8-12 weeks to titrate to the higher doses if you do not develop significant side effects.

  • • This depends on your personal weight loss goals and how well you incorporate proper eating and exercise habits into your weight loss regimen. Clinical studies conducted were for 1 year or greater, but many people see significant weight loss of up to 30 pounds in 6 months.

    • Semaglutide for weight loss is not designed to be taken long term. Once your personal goals are achieved, the physician will consider discontinuing the medication. At Rejuvene MedSpa and Wellness Center, we will work with you to achieve long term lifestyle changes that include good diet and exercise habits to maintain your new look and good health.

  • • Because Semaglutide mimics the body’s natural substances, replicating a hormone that the body produces naturally, it is generally well-tolerated and considered quite safe when prescribed by a qualified physician.

    • The most common side effects of Semaglutide for weight loss include nausea, heartburn, vomiting, and constipation.

    • Less common side effects include abdominal pain, pancreatitis, gallbladder stones or inflammation, acute kidney injury, low blood glucose, electrolyte imbalance, diabetic retinopathy, headache, fatigue and suicidal ideation.

These side effects typically subside over time, as the patient’s body gets used to the medication and they learn the routine of the new reduced fat and caloric intake.

  • • Most patients who take Semaglutide find that they do not need additional weight management medications.

    • However, Semaglutide should not be used in combination with other GLP-1 receptor agonists or medications that increase GLP-1 receptor activity. It may be used in combination with other weight loss medications, but the safety and efficacy of such combinations have not been studied.

    • Any medications you are taking or wish to take at the same time as Semaglutide should be discussed with a qualified physician.

  • • Semaglutide is also approved for the treatment of Type II diabetes for those who do not take Insulin or Sulfonylureas (Amaryl, Glucotrol, Micronase, Tolinase)

    • Semaglutide should not be used by patients with Type I or insulin dependent diabetes.

  • • There is limited information available about the safety of Semaglutide during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to get pregnant, you should generally refrain from taking Semaglutide for weight loss.

    • However, if Semaglutide (Ozempic) is being prescribed for patients with Type II or with gestational diabetes, it should be discussed with your obstetrician or endocrinologist.

  • • Semaglutide is recommended for adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater, or for those with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater and at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, Type II diabetes, or high cholesterol.

    • Semaglutide is also recommended for those who have tried to lose weight through diet and exercise but have been unsuccessful.

    • Note: Individuals who have a history of pancreatitis or thyroid cancer should not use Semaglutide.

    • It is important to talk to your healthcare provider to determine if Semaglutide is a good option for you.
